Trump Signs Executive Order for Immediate Construction of U.S. Iron Dome, Calls It a Top Priority
In a significant move to bolster national defense, former President Donald Trump announced the immediate construction of a U.S.-made Iron Dome missile defense system, likening it to Israel’s highly effective shield. Speaking at a Republican dinner in Florida on Monday, Trump emphasized the urgency of the project, calling it a top priority to protect American citizens. He later confirmed signing an executive order to fast-track the initiative while aboard Air Force One.

A Modern Defense Shield for America

Trump praised Israel’s Iron Dome, a state-of-the-art missile defense system that has proven its effectiveness in intercepting rockets and protecting civilian lives. He argued that the United States, despite its global military presence, lacks a similar system to safeguard its own population. “We protect other countries, but we don’t protect ourselves,” Trump said. “Now, with our phenomenal technology, we can change that. The United States is entitled to the best defense systems, and everything will be made right here in the USA—100%.”  

The former president also drew parallels to the Cold War era, noting that President Ronald Reagan had envisioned such a system but lacked the necessary technology at the time. “Now, we have the capability,” Trump added, highlighting Israel’s success as a model for the U.S.  

Executive Order and Defense Priorities

Trump’s executive order directs the immediate development of a U.S. Iron Dome, with newly confirmed Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth leading the charge. Trump expressed confidence in Hegseth’s ability to deliver results, calling him “fantastic” and the right person for the job.  

“Pete Hegseth is going to be great. I know him very well, and he’s exactly what we need to get this done,” Trump said. “We’re going to ensure that we have the most lethal fighting force in the world.” 
The State Department echoed Trump’s sentiments, listing the Iron Dome as one of Hegseth’s key priorities. Other focus areas include reinstating troops discharged due to COVID-19 vaccination mandates and enhancing the nation’s overall defense capabilities.

This isn’t the first time Trump has advocated for a U.S. Iron Dome. During his 2024 campaign trail, he repeatedly mentioned the project as part of his broader vision for national security. At the Commander-In-Chief inaugural ball on January 20, Trump hinted at the initiative, stating, “We’re also doing the Iron Dome, all made in America. We’re going to have a nice Iron Dome.”
