North Korean Troops Accidentally Kill Russian Paramilitaries in Friendly Fire Incident: Reports
Language barriers spark deadly friendly fire involving DPRK troops and Russian forces in Ukraine war zone.

In an unexpected turn of events, North Korean soldiers accidentally killed Russian paramilitary troops in a friendly fire incident, according to Ukrainian intelligence reports.
The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) revealed on Saturday that soldiers from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) are now aiding Russian forces in the occupied Kursk Oblast, a region heavily contested in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian conflict. Ukrainian officials estimate that around 11,000 DPRK troops are stationed within Russian borders to assist in military operations.
“Russia has incorporated DPRK soldiers into assault operations in the Kursk region, working alongside marines and airborne units of the Russian Armed Forces,” the DIU’s statement noted.
The DIU further claimed that Ukrainian forces have inflicted substantial damage on these North Korean troops through strategic firepower. A particularly effective strike involved FPV drones targeting DPRK positions in the region.
However, a deeper issue has emerged: the significant language barrier between North Korean and Russian troops. This communication gap reportedly resulted in a tragic friendly fire incident, where North Korean soldiers mistakenly fired upon vehicles belonging to the Akhmat special forces unit, a Chechen paramilitary group allied with Russia.
“As a result of this language barrier, North Korean troops misidentified Akhmat battalion vehicles and opened fire, leading to the deaths of eight Kadyrovite soldiers,” the DIU reported.
This incident underscores the challenges of coordinating multinational forces in high-stakes combat scenarios. The mishap highlights growing cracks within Russia’s strategy as it seeks foreign reinforcements to bolster its military efforts in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the broader war effort continues to escalate. Russian forces recently launched one of the largest attacks on Ukraine’s power grid to date, deploying nearly 100 missiles and over 200 drones across western Ukraine. These strikes aim to cripple the country’s energy infrastructure as freezing temperatures set in, intensifying civilian suffering.
