The guard promptly alerted Coral Gables police, leading to a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert for the vehicles.

Responding officers stopped both vehicles, rescuing a woman allegedly being abducted from the Toyota. Further inspection of the U-Haul truck revealed a group of migrants, including:

16 Chinese females
15 Chinese males
1 male from Cuba
1 female from Ecuador

Additional migrants in the Toyota included a Cuban man, a Brazilian woman, and a man from Ecuador.

Coral Gables Police Chief Edward James Hudak Jr. noted, “We believe these individuals were brought here by water, likely dropped off near southern Coral Gables, then approached the van on foot before being loaded inside.” Investigators are exploring whether the alleged abduction involved an escape attempt from smugglers.

Migrants’ Condition and Aftermath

While the migrants were visibly exhausted, they were reported to be in stable condition. The Coral Gables Fire Department provided medical care at the scene. The migrants were later handed over to U.S. Border Patrol, while four individuals connected to the incident were taken into custody.
