Nord Security Founders Launch AI Startup Nexos.ai to Streamline Enterprise Deployment

Nexos.ai: Revolutionizing AI Deployment for Enterprises
The founders of Nord Security, the Lithuanian unicorn known for its flagship VPN product NordVPN, are venturing into the AI space with their new startup, Nexos.ai. This AI orchestration company aims to bridge the gap between AI pilots and full-scale enterprise production, with a particular focus on optimizing large language models (LLMs).
- Founders’ Legacy and Vision
Tomas Okmanas and Eimantas Sabaliauskas, the masterminds behind Nord Security’s success, are now channeling their expertise into Nexos.ai. Nord Security—bootstrapped for its first decade—secured a $100 million investment in 2022 at a $1.6 billion valuation, later reaching $3 billion. Building on this legacy, the duo’s latest venture is emerging from stealth with $8 million in funding, backed by prominent investors like Index Ventures, Creandum, and Dig Ventures, alongside angel investors from leading tech companies such as Datadog, Klarna, Supercell, and Wix.
“Tomas’ track record and the promise of Nexos.ai made this an easy decision for us to invest,” said Hannah Seal, partner at Index Ventures. This investment also marks Index Ventures’ first foray into Lithuania.
- Addressing a Critical Need in AI Adoption
AI adoption is no longer a luxury but a necessity for enterprises. However, moving from pilot projects to production involves significant challenges, including managing high availability, security, and cost. Nexos.ai aims to solve these pain points with a unified platform that offers:
- Seamless AI Model Integration: Nexos.ai connects over 200 AI models, including those from OpenAI, Anthropic, and niche providers, through a simple API. If one provider experiences downtime or escalating costs, enterprises can automatically switch to another without disruption.
- Cost Efficiency: Features like intelligent caching minimize expenses by reusing answers for repetitive queries, reducing reliance on costly LLMs.
- Enhanced Security: Nexos.ai prevents the sharing of sensitive data with external providers and ensures compliance by rerouting sensitive queries to the company’s internal systems when necessary.
“We saw a significant gap in transitioning AI projects from labs to enterprise production,” said Okmanas. “With Nexos.ai, we aim to provide the tools necessary to ensure visibility, adaptability, and security.”
- The Catalyst for Nexos.ai
The inspiration for Nexos.ai arose from challenges faced by Tesonet, an umbrella company housing over 20 businesses, including Nord Security and Hostinger. While integrating AI into Hostinger’s website builder, unexpected costs and downtimes highlighted the need for a robust solution to optimize and manage AI models.
“In August, we incurred $150,000 in AI costs with little visibility into why,” said Okmanas. “These issues underscored the importance of a platform like Nexos.ai.”
- Tackling Data Security and Compliance
Data security remains a significant concern for enterprises adopting AI, particularly in sectors like healthcare, banking, and insurance. Nexos.ai addresses these challenges with:
- Guardrails for Sensitive Data: The platform detects and reroutes sensitive information, such as personally identifiable information (PII), to internal systems.
- Future Self-Hosting Options: While currently hosting on its infrastructure, Nexos.ai plans to offer self-hosting capabilities for added control and security.
- Speed and Expertise
Nexos.ai’s rapid development—from concept to incorporation in just six weeks—was made possible by the existing infrastructure and talent pool within Tesonet. A dedicated team of 30 experienced professionals was quickly assembled to drive the project forward.
“Our team’s familiarity and expertise allowed us to hit the ground running,” said Okmanas. “While we’ll expand the team, having a trusted core group gave us a significant head start.”
- A Promising Future
Nexos.ai’s platform is set to launch by the end of March, with several beta customers already onboard. The timing aligns with a growing demand for scalable AI solutions.
“Enterprises are now recognizing the tangible value of AI,” said Seal. “Nexos.ai is arriving at the perfect time to provide the infrastructure needed to adopt AI at scale.”
