America’s Double Standards: Criticizing Pakistan’s Missile Program While Openly Supporting Israel

A senior official from the U.S. President’s office has warned that nuclear-armed Pakistan is developing long-range ballistic missiles capable of targeting areas beyond South Asia, even reaching the United States.

This is the same America that once considered Pakistan a close ally but now sees its missile program as a threat. Meanwhile, the U.S. openly supplies weapons to Israel, supporting its actions in Gaza and Arab nations, exposing America’s double standards.

America’s Hypocrisy

U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer, during a session at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, stated that Pakistan’s missile program poses an emerging threat to the U.S. He said:
“Pakistan has developed modern, long-range missile technology capable of reaching the United States. There are only a few nations whose nuclear weapons and missiles pose a threat to U.S. security—Russia, China, and North Korea. Now, Pakistan is emerging as another potential threat.”

The question arises: Is Pakistan being targeted simply because it is a Muslim-majority country? On the other hand, the U.S. continues to provide weapons to Israel, which are being used in war crimes in Gaza and other Arab nations. This clearly highlights America’s hypocritical policies.

Sanctions and U.S. Objectives

The U.S. State Department recently imposed sanctions on four Pakistani companies, alleging their involvement in missile proliferation. The official statement claimed:
“This step is aimed at curbing the development and spread of weapons of mass destruction.”

However, the U.S. has never questioned Israel’s nuclear and missile programs. It is the same America that has fostered close ties with India while pressuring Pakistan, further exposing its bias.

China-Pakistan Relations and U.S. Strategy

In response to mounting U.S. pressure, Pakistan is likely to strengthen its ties with China. Speaking on Sama TV, political analyst Najam Sethi stated:
“The more America pressures us, the closer we will move toward China.”

Although there are some tensions between China and Pakistan over issues like Gwadar and CPEC, U.S. policies have forced the two nations to come closer.

Will These Sanctions Have Any Impact?

Dr. Maleeha Lodhi, Pakistan’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, remarked that such sanctions are nothing new. She explained:
“Pakistan has always resisted these sanctions. The U.S. has consistently tried to weaken or halt our nuclear and missile programs, but Pakistan has never compromised on its security.”

The effectiveness of these sanctions is questionable. As seen in the case of Iran, even the harshest restrictions couldn’t deter it from advancing its defense programs. Pakistan, too, is unlikely to alter its trajectory.
